Start Here For Your Personal Development Plan

From someone who has a solid personal development plan, I know that it took me a while to get clear on the things that I wanted to improve in my life. And interesting enough, I have heard from a lot of people say they feel inspired by what I do, yet, aren’t sure where to start when they want to change their own lives.

In my opinion, even if you don’t work in the personal development field, I feel like everyone should have some sort of plan when it comes to their self-improvement.

In fact, the more you work on personal development, the more I find those improvements rolling over into other areas of your life. School doesn’t teach these things, yet personal development is where we truly improve ourselves for the better.

So, where should you start?

Here are some areas on where to start on your personal development plan!

Table of Contents:

1. Health/Fitness

I will keep saying this, time and time again, that health is the number one more important thing to focus on, yet it is the number one thing people neglect the most until something big happens.

Think about it. How many people do you know are living in massive medical debt?

How many of those people with health problems are able to keep up with their children? Grandchildren?

Some people’s medical issues make them miss out on work and create more financial stress on top of the health problems.

If you are one of those people who are neglecting their health, I strongly advise you to start the improvement.

I’m no medical doctor, so getting your health and fitness in check will look different for everyone. It may be weightlifting, yoga, running, maybe you just love to go out and walk in nature!

Coming from someone who’s been into fitness for almost several years now, I can confidently say that it has made a massive difference in myself.

I feel more confident, I have more diligence and have learned consistency which has helped me achieve my other goals, I have energy to be able to keep up with everything in my life and the ability to handle stress.

So, my biggest advice out of this post is to check your health and fitness priorities. Start eliminating bad habits and produce better, healthier habits!

2. Relationships

Sure, working your relationship with your partner, friends, and family are important, but the most important relationship to work on is yourself.

After all, we spend the most time with ourselves. So, how do you talk to yourself?

Are you practicing self-love?

Do you feel good about yourself?

Get clear on how you truly feel about yourself.

Anything that comes up that isn’t in alignment with how you want to feel about yourself, chances are, are limiting beliefs. Limiting beliefs can hold you back from improving other areas of your life and when we do the inner work on ourselves, whether that’s be inner child work, shadow work, or other forms of inner healing, we are able to reflect a better reality that we desire to live in.

This has also been referred to as manifestation. Check out the manifestation section of this blog for more advice on manifesting your dream life!

For now, check in with the relationship you have with yourself because like the famous quote we hear often goes, “You can’t pour from an empty cup”.

3. Spirituality/Religion

Now, if you are an atheist, this section won’t resonate with you.

However, if you are open to spirituality and spiritual growth, I find that getting connected with your spirit is a great way to deepen your faith and trust within the unknown.

And although this is going to sound biased from me since I talk about spirituality on my blog, I’ve personally built a lot of trust within myself, my purpose, and the choices I made in my life. I’ve learned over through my spiritual journey that everything that has happened in my life had a purpose. It’s helped me live a life that I truly don’t regret and grateful for the experiences that I’ve been put through.

This is all because I got into spirituality. I learned to listen to my intuition and embody the Higher version of myself that I, at first, had no idea I could possibly be.

Yet, here we are years later and I find myself changing more as time goes by.

Spirituality can look different for you, especially for those who follow a certain religion. My biggest advice on this one is to connect with your soul, Higher Self, God, whoever your Higher Power is and form a spiritual bond.

Get to know how you communicate.

Is it by praying? Meditating? Being out in nature and connecting with the elements?

Find your own way of connection and allow yourself to be guided. It’s your personal journey and relationship with your Higher Power.

Do what resonates with you.

4. Career/Business

It’s no secret that many of us tie our success into our career, whether you are someone who works a regular 9-5 job or someone whose built a business.

It’s great to have some goals in this area because it guides you towards a purpose. And for some with a business, when you set goals for yourself, you can truly see how far you’re willing to push yourself.

Do you want to aim for that promotion? Do you want to scale your business at a certain level?

Heck, maybe you are someone who is still trying to find a career!

There are far too many people who slave away at work to pay bills and then die at their deathbeds.

Of course, you need some kind of work. Obviously, your bills still need to be paid, but in what world did our work get to the point where we have to suffer? There are plenty of people out there who work in a career that doesn’t even feel like work because they love it that much.

If it’s possible for them, it’s possible for you.

So, what are your career goals? What are your business goals? Are you wanting to make a massive impact in this world? Are you someone who wants to collaborate with amazing, like-minded individuals with a huge goal in mind?

Think about it honestly, because your work will massively define your personal development journey.

5. Money/Finances

Let’s talk about money, honey!

Our money and finances are pretty high up there when it comes to improvement.

And this can look differently for everyone.

For some, it’s asking for a raise in their job.

Maybe you need to create a better budget.

You could be wanting to get into investments and work on putting money into your portfolio.

Is there a side hustle you’ve been thinking about doing for some extra income?

Maybe you need to have an open, honest conversation about money with your partner, since after all, that’s one of the biggest leading causes of divorce.

I find that this is also a topic that people feel the most uncomfortable which comes from a variety of reasons, but mostly stem from the limiting belief that we grew up around money.

So, it’s important to work through what limiting beliefs you have around money and tackle those beliefs if they aren’t going to serve you on your goals.

6. Hobbies/Fun

Life isn’t all about working and trying to improve yourself. I had to learn this the hard way after having multiple burn-outs throughout my life.

So, make sure you are doing things you enjoy and find what it is you like to do, even if it’s just a hobby.

Having fun and having a separate hobby helps our minds reset. It’s actually been proven that more rest and fun in our life actually makes us more productive in the long-run.

After all, you can’t expect a car to run on gas forever, right? What makes you think we can do the same?

So, what are some things you like to do? What are some things you always wanted to try out?

Maybe it’s something you used to do as a child. Maybe it’s something you always wanted to do, but never got around to it.

Don’t be afraid to try out many different things.

Have fun with it and learn to just have fun with life!
