Note: As I read and invest myself into more personal development books, I will be updating this page quite often and putting my reviews on ones that I truly feel like are worth your time.

As someone who talks about self-development, you can assume that I have read MANY personal development books. Some were repetitive and some made a very lasting impact in my life.

So, I’ll be talking about the ones that have made huge impacts in my personal life.

I know many bloggers usually just give you a small book review of each book or maybe just a generic list, but my intention for this post is for my recommendations to leave a lasting, positive impact onto your life, just as they have with mine.

Table of Contents:

1. Atomic Habits

One of the books that helped me create habits that actually stuck to me was Atomic Habits by James Clear. We hear all the time, especially when it comes to personal growth, that we need to form better habits in order to get somewhere.

For example, we know that in order to have better health, it would be best to eat better and start a workout routine. Yet, I’m sure that we know (or maybe we have done this ourselves) that jumping into a new routine like that is intimidating and stressful.

Honestly, let’s be real. Trying to implement any new habit is a challenge.

However, James Clear helps you implement habits into your already busy life so that you don’t have to keep finding excuses not to work on yourself. These micro habits are what can help you solidify a solid new routine and he makes it quite easy to understand!

I used his advice to help me be disciplined on building my businesses, for creating a solid workout routine, and have found ways to use it in my mindfulness practices

After all, slow and steady win the race and that involves sticking to good habits!

I really love this book and I’ve talked about it in a separate post because I truly believe in the advice that this book gives. No wonder this book is in the top charts in self-help!

2. Can’t Hurt Me

Where do I begin with this book?

I absolutely LOVE Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins and I’m going to be biased here and say it’s one of my favorite books of all time! I love the fact that in the Audible version, there are sections in the book that go into podcast form and you really get to feel the emotional rollercoaster of what Goggins has been through.

David Goggins has truly outrun (literally) the odds. From beating records to literally becoming a Navy Seal with a hole in his heart, he has shown us (and continues to) that everything we want to achieve in life starts in our minds.

And coming from a terrible, abusive past in a time and place where he grew up with racism, he was truly turned his life around and has become such an inspiration to many people who are looking to make big strides in their lives!

I can’t tell you how much I admire this man. I, of course as a black woman, can relate to the racism, but I listen to this book every time I’m going through something tough in life.

It was especially helped push my limits at the gym.

This book is very raw and very real. He stresses this enough that if you aren’t someone who doesn’t like swearing or gets triggered dark topics, then don’t read his book.

However, if you need a kick in the *ss, then I HIGHLY recommend this book!

It’s truly one of my favorites!

3. Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself

Another great book that taught me about how our mind creates our reality was the book Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself by Joe Dispenza. Not only is Joe Dispenza one heck of an author, but he is also a neurologist, so he plays quite a bit of science in his books!

All the more reason to take his words seriously!

Joe Dispenza has changed so many people’s lives around the world, including healing people, helping people live their dream life, as well as rewiring their limiting beliefs. He has also explained the science behind illness, mental health, and where/how our belief systems form.

In my blogs, I talk a lot about rewiring your belief system and it’s all thanks to Joe Dispenza’s teachings! He also has meditations that can help you get into the mode of rewiring your belief system.

It’s an AWESOME read and I also highly recommend this book if you are a huge science nerd!

4. The Four Agreements

When it comes to dealing with your emotions, your triggers, and people’s projection upon you, The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz has truly helped me gain emotional intelligence of these types of situations.

This book has taught me that our words are truly magic. We have the capability to not only place limiting beliefs onto other people (especially at a young age where it makes the most impact in your life later on in adulthood), but how we can also choose to use our words for empowerment.

The Four Agreements simplifies how to navigate people’s projections of you and how to not take it so seriously, which will greatly better yourself, since we all care too much about people’s opinions on a certain level.

I really love this book because it’s not super long and it’s a very easy read, but still makes a huge impact onto how I navigate life, especially navigating toxic people in my life.

Your voice is a powerful tool that we have the honor to possess.

Learn how to use it to your advantage and help empower those to do the same.

5. Never Finished

If you haven’t noticed, this is indeed, David Goggin’s second book Never Finished.

Again, I’m biased and will always love David Goggin’s books.

This one dives deeper into the struggles of David Goggin’s life and how even he, the toughest man alive, has faced hardships, failures, and the darkness of his thoughts in his lowest times. His first book was more of an introduction, but his second book reallllyy dives deep into his life and you really get a front row seat to how the toughest man alive received his title.

If you listen to the audiobook (which I highly recommend), you will find part of the book in podcast form where even his mother has talked about the things that she has had to go through with Goggins against her abusive husband and to put it somewhat politely, her F-ed up past.

I won’t spoil the book too much, but again, if you are easily triggered by dark topics and swearing, I would skip this book.

If you need that wake-up call, again, highly recommend this book.

6. You Are a Badass

Pretty much any You Are a Badass books by Jen Sincero is always an empowering and informative read for those wanting to be the best versions of yourself!

Since I’m on a roll with empowerment, I’m recommending one of her books on You are a Badass. How To Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life. I absolutely love the way this book is written because it truly feels like you are talking to a friend who holds you accountable and encourages you to be your best self. She preaches a lot about how to love yourself and how you are the priority in your life.

It’s entertaining, but also gives out great points on how to improve yourself and your life mentally and spiritually.

So if you are also someone into spiritually (or want to improve yourself spiritually), she talks a lot about how to work with the Universe and the power that we hold that helps us co-create the person we want to be and manifest the life we desire using the help of the Universe (or whatever Higher Power you believe in).

I also love how straightforward she is and the funny comments that she makes when she preaches about self-love and living for yourself (not for other people). Some of her advice may seem obvious, but she explains it in a way where it makes you think in a different perspective and actually makes you think “Ah, that’s true. She has a point.” or “Huh, that makes more sense”.

Her type of language keeps me engaged in the book and teachings still stick with me to this day. I feel like her book is like talking to a friend that hypes you up.

I highly recommend this book as well as other ones such as You are a Badass for Making Money.

This book has the same writing style, except she talks all about money, the mindset behind money, and gives you great reasons why it’s important for you to make lot of money.

After all, in today’s society, money is such a tricky topic to talk about and I know that many of us, including myself, have grown up with limitations around money.

Check out You Are a Badass At Making Money while you are at it and get inspired on the idea that it is a normal feeling to want to have lots of money!

If you’re interested in more than one of these books, Audible now makes it easy to obtain a wide selection of their audio books. They offer a free 30-day trial and you’ll get to have two free audio books to start off with as a new member.

After your trial, you get to choose one book each month from their catalog which offers a wide range of genres for your bookworm needs!

I’ve been a membership for many years now and it’s where I get most of my books nowadays, especially since I travel a lot and I’m limited to how much stuff I can bring with me. It’s also where I’ve learn so much of my knowledge when it comes to what I write about in my blog.

I find it convenient for my schedule whether I’m driving long distances, working out, going on a walk, cleaning, you name it!

And you know what else?

If you ever decide you need to cancel for any reason, you get to keep your books FOREVER.

What a freaking deal!
