How Somatic Healing Can Change Your Life

Lately, I’ve been going through a MASSIVE transition in life.

Not only have I been in the middle of these huge changes in my life, but I’ve been craving for some kind of upgrade in my life, as if I’m stepping more out of my shell and ready to go to the next level.

I’ve been going through a course where embodiment work has a huge theme, which involves doing some somatic work.

Now, I’ve heard of somatic healing, but really put the work off to the side and fully emerged myself into it as much as I have been.

I’ve heard some AMAZING perspectives on somatic release exercises and now that I’ve been doing this for a long time now, I can see why so many retreats have this type of healing in their rituals!

Before we really get into the reasons how somatic healing can change your life, let’s dive into WHAT somatic work is and how it’s implemented.

Table of Contents:

What is somatic healing?

It’s been said that many of our emotions are held within our body, especially with anything that has been traumatic to the individual.

The proof of this can be examples where you tense up when your around someone or a situation that caused you trauma from childhood. You may not be conscious of it, but our body keeps score of our emotions.

The issue with this, is when our body holds onto low frequency emotions for years on years, part of our light body breaks off (aka our life force body) and can later on, develop some sort of sickness or disease later on in our life.

You see, our bodies are made up of life force energy, where well, it provides us life. That’s where the term comes from.

The less life force you have, the more suspectable you are to your outer circumstances.

I know, I know, people look at me like I’m freaking crazy for having that perspective.

But, coming from a family with a lot of health issues, I can absolutely see how each of them have developed the illness that they have.

Deep down, I always knew about this, but after going through reputable spiritual mentors and their teachings, I know for a fact that this is true and I’m on a mission to prove this by going through the motions myself.

Here’s the thing: somatic healing involves moving these emotions throughout your body and expressing them so they can leave the body and be replaced with more higher frequency emotions, like joy, gratitude, etc.

Too many people underestimate the power of movement and how it can actually be beneficial to inner healing work because it connects body and mind together to help your neuropathways reprogram your trauma into a different story.

I’ve mentioned this before in my newsletter, which you are totally free to join anytime because I give out great advice and extra content through there!

In order to permanently change a habit, you need to, basically, suffocate the old neuropathways enough to form new ones that are more beneficial for what you are trying to accomplish.

Does that make a little bit of sense?

Now that we covered a little bit about what somatic movement is and how it aids in your inner healing, let’s dive into how somatic healing can change your life for the better!

1. Somatic healing helps heal trauma

I mean we already dove into this, but I figured to really emphasize this point of view, I will tell you a little bit about myself.

But I’ve done somatic healing work throughout two different programs from two different mentors and both times have made me realize that I had the fear of feeling seen.

It’s odd considering I post on the internet, have a podcast, and a blog that literally talks about some of my personal experiences, however, I wasn’t surprised because I would feel like I would have to make myself feel small in order to not hurt other people’s feelings.

It was either that, or people would try to downgrade my character, accomplishments, and lifestyle choices.

So, of course, we can’t force people to see life in our way, but we can change the dynamic in your energy by releasing what is no longer beneficial for you.

I had realizations that I honestly wasn’t seeing myself for who I am and celebrating it with my past selves, from childhood, to preteens, and a little bit into adulthood.

Once I started doing the somatic work on this, my presence on social media started to grow steadily and I was getting waaaay more appreciation for the work I was putting out there then I was even in normal 9-5 type jobs!

And although that may sound pretty scary to dive into trauma, I promise you that the release of these emotions feels SO freeing and truly, you will feel lighter by the end of it!

2. Somatic healing helps you feel safe in your body

This is especially healing for anyone who has been through any kind of sexual trauma and wants to heal through those experiences.

Somatic healing, when you first get into it, can feel awkward because well, you’re doing something new and putting yourself out there.

With somatic movement, you are getting used to intuitively moving your body with whatever music is playing and the more you place yourself in that situation, the more you will find yourself getting more comfortable in your body.

It’s no different than just doing new things where you may not be sure if you are doing it, but once you get into it, it starts to come to you naturally.

I highly recommend somatic work to anyone who has been through any sexual trauma or anyone who wants to really tap into that feminine side because movement like dance lies more in the divine feminine energy.

3. Somatic healing helps let out deep-rooted emotions

I’ve talked about ways to calm yourself down in triggering situations and movement was one of the point of views I’ve talked about, which is basically somatic healing.

Personally, I LOVE using somatic healing when it comes to letting out anger, especially if you hold any tension, resentment, or anger towards another person.

And of course, we don’t want to hold onto those emotions because they will obviously do more harm than good.

Therefore, somatic healing can help let out any deep-rooted emotions that you may have towards a person or a situation that is either happening in the moment or has happened to you in the past.

So before sitting in your emotions and allowing them to deepen, turn on some angry music, go crazy in your bedroom, stomp around, and allow yourself to get mad.

OR, turn on some sad music and allow yourself to cry it out.

It’s absolutely okay!

4. Somatic healing helps clear up stagnant energy

Of course, I’m talking more about our energy bodies when I say somatic healing helps clear up stagnant energy.

How would you know?

Well when doing somatic healing, do it for at least a month and see if you find any physical changes to your body because our internal, energetic body will reflect how we look externally.

Has acne cleared up?

Do your eyes shine brighter?

Do you find yourself smiling more in the mirror?

Are you walking with better posture with your shoulders rolled back more?

Somatic healing isn’t this quick spiritual healing that just works overnight!

We hold onto stagnant energy from years of trauma and low vibrational frequencies, so it’ll take a while to peel back the layers and heal ourselves one step at a time!

5. Somatic healing helps you feel like taking up space

Just like I’ve talked about with my own experience, doing somatic work has helped me feel safe to take up space, no matter if it’s in conversation, career, or even just expressing my needs.

Since somatic release exercises help you literally, move around however you please, this can help your body and mind connect the idea that it’s ok the take up space around you without any guilt, shame, or fear.

This is especially true if you go to a retreat that has somatic movement implemented, but I haven’t gotten around to going to a retreat (but would love to make my own one day)!

If you’re someone who has often made yourself feel small, whether that’s around toxic family members, toxic coworkers, or other toxic people.

Somatic movement can help you train your subconsious to freely take up space and actually not care what people think and to learn to not taking anything personally ever again!
